Choosing your Puppy
Embarking on bringing a puppy into your home and life is an exciting journey and here at the Humberside club we would like to offer you some helpful guidance on what to consider when selecting your next furry family member.
Choosing a respected breeder - A breeder should be just as interested in you and your lifestyle as you are interested in their litter, they will want to ensure that you can offer the perfect home for the puppy they have taken time to raise in their family home. You should be asking questions about what health tests both parents have had and eventually seeing these health certificates before taking your puppy home. You would need to see your puppy with its mother and in the home. It is not always possible to see the stud since many will not own the stud dog themselves. Puppies should be living and raised within the home not outdoors in sheds/barns etc. You would expect your puppy to have registration documents, vaccination cards and a welcome puppy pack. Each breeder will have there own choice on what food your puppy is having and we would recommend you follow their feeding guidance. Socialisation is important a friendly happy mother will often raise a more social puppy. Explore Dog Shows- Attend dog shows to meet Cavaliers up close and chat with experienced Cavalier enthusiasts, including breeders. Even if you're not interested in showing your pup, this is a great way to get connected. The relationship between you and your breeder is important you should use them to lean on for guidance throughout your puppies life.
Don't be afraid to ask questions and don't rush the process its better to get the right puppy first time.
Rescue - We do occasionally have older cavaliers available for rehoming. If you are interested in an older Cavalier King Charles Spaniel or if you would like us to support you in rehoming a cavalier king charles spaniel please contact Ann 07923608797 or Mary 07767457998.
